Today, Prozac remains the most widely prescribed antidepressant medicine in history ... From: serotonin, and sadness: the biology of antidep...www.fasebj.org/cgi/content/full/21/13/3404-a

  1. Interesting chronology... all leading to eventual awareness these days of the importance of close monitoring of people taking SSRIs.

  2. The field of neuropsychopharmacoplogy is one in which there are still so many unknowns, and it would seem that the development and prescribing of these drugs is based as much on theoretical assumptions as well as facts. Individual brain chemistry is difficult to analyze and is prone to many mistakes because of the subjectivity in assessment and diagnosis. Drugs cannot alone attribute to the incidence of suicide, but we must certainly consider them as an influence. Perhaps we should look deeper within our society and culture for reasons not so clearly evident.

  3. Thats true david and thats why this topic is so controversal because yes these ssri drugs probably cause suicidal thoughts but who can say if that person didnt already have those and thats why they were on them in the first place so you cant quite blame the medication for what we are not completely sure of.
