Neurotransmitter Depletion Drugs

Drugs used to treat ADHD and depressions are reuptake inhibitors which block neurotransmitters from reaching the brain which in turn causes neurotransmitter depletion. When neurotransmitter depletion gets low enough it causes people to act irrationally and commit suicide. The FDA requires all neurotransmitter depletion drugs have a black box warning on them that most people pay little attention to. These drugs are among the few drugs classes that side effects can actually worsen the illness while trying to treat it. These drugs should be carefully monitored by physicians by watching the patient’s diet, giving proper nutrient supplements, and following up with neurotransmitter testing.

  1. I know a lot of people who have taken these "SSRI" type prescriptions. I try to urge people to read the book, "The Mood Cure" by Julia Ross. This book will provide solutions for controlling moods like depression, anxiety and ADHD without prescriptions. I also suggest they read the articles at www.healthrecovery.com; So far five people took this advice and are happy (no pun intended) that they did.

  2. As a student struggling with ADD and taking Rx for it. My Rx usage is monitored by a dr, but I never realize that the Rx causes the neurotransmitter to stay at the synpase and not return to brain (bc it inhibits the reuptake of neurotransmitter), that it could cause neurotransmitter depletion.

  3. Very Interesting information. I believe as long as a doctor monitors your behavior with prescribed meds everything will be fine. You just have to let them know if things are not fine so that they can change the meds as soon as possible. Overall great page and very informative.

  4. It is sad to see that the youth needs this artificial high to feel good. More time and money needs to be spent to figure out what the older generation did right and the current generation is not. But the key is to follow-through.
